Sustainable Yarns Reviewed – These Brands Truly Deliver

30/05/2025

Sustainability is no longer a niche concern – more and more crocheters and knitters are choosing eco-friendly fibers. But what exactly makes a yarn sustainable? And which brands really live up to their promises?

I've researched, tested, and compared. Here's an overview of the key criteria, standout yarn brands, and personal insights from the world of eco-conscious yarns.

🔍 What Makes a Yarn Sustainable?

Not every "eco" label means the yarn is truly green. Look for:

  • Certifications such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX, RWS

  • Renewable materials like organic cotton, hemp, or bamboo

  • Recycled fibers, e.g. reclaimed cotton or PET yarn

  • Transparent sourcing and fair production

  • Plastic-free packaging

Important: "Natural" doesn't always mean sustainable – conventional wool can be resource-intensive if not sourced responsibly.
